Witness of the Spirit

The purpose of this activity is to develop sensitivity to experiencing the witness of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit communicates with our Spirit on the inside as to whether something is true or false. We need to learn to identify:

  • Consolation: The Spirit bearing witness to truth. It feels like life or expanding in your spirit.
  • Desolation: The Spirit bearing witness to error. It feels like withering or gasping for air in your spirit.

We can use these two to test prophecy as Paul directs us (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21) as well as to weigh decisions. To run this activation:

  • Have the students partner up in smaller groups.
  • Each student in the group will take turns speaking prophecies that they have and believe to be true about their life.
  • As each person in the group shares have the students pay attention to what is happening in their spirit.
  • Eventually lead the students in an activity of reflection on what they’ve experienced in this exercise.
